Ignatz,
He looks great! I agree about the bright colors. That would only make sense. Possibly, no two people would have the same color on a work crew, so you can always know at a glance who is who. Tools and doodads probably aren't important — he won't be close enough for any of that to be made out. If you wanted to put something in his hands, then maybe something big, like a pole with a gizmo on the end; a ZG wrench on a stick, maybe, for those hard-to-reach spots?
When adding color, I'd like him to have brown skin, if possible. Not enough POCs in outer space, even yet.
As for the helmet, the glass looks fine to me! I mean, in reality, it would probably be a material that could instantly polarize in bright light. People's helmets would have shade on the side facing the sun, and the shade would shift around entirely as they move. It would look odd (at least, in my mind, it does), but it would be perfectly normal to them.

David,
Here is a render of the space dude with some colors that might just work. Kind of Disney-ish, but when somewhat smaller in the frame and seen against the box hauler and cargo frame... probably OK.

Ignatz,
Yeah, he looks great! I agree about the cutsie look of the suit, but hey, that's retro for you. I doubt anyone will give it too much thought once the whole thing is put together. Speaking of which...
Are we really there? Is it time to assemble an image? I must admit to some excitement!

Yes, David,
I believe we are closing in on the time when I can actually start bring this stuff together into a real graphic. Oh, for Joy! For Joy!
I still have some rigging to do on the spaceman... but after that...
