David,
I think this guy is just about finished. Spent some quality time this morning working on the rigging — that is to say the linking up of the mesh information to the controlling armature — so that I can pose him more conveniently. I chose for a basic armature rig such that I can move the essential portions of the body (torso, arms, legs, hands & head) but do not have fine-grain control of the fingers. I didn't think it worth the extra trouble of rigging those up for our graphic needs. If you think otherwise I will cheerfully re-rig him. Good for the experience, don't you know.
You will see in the render that I shot our guy out into a close orbit around the highdock and told him to pose with a staff to represent a possible tool he might use when actually on the clock and working. You wouldn't believe the extra costs demanded by his union for the few hours it took on our little 'away shoot'. And the length of his coffee breaks? Outrageous!
Cheefully yours,
- Ignatz

Ignatz,
He looks great! Very spiffy. Every inch the spaceman. If I were in trouble out there, and saw him approach as part of the rescue team, I'd be quite relieved.
I absolutely agree about rigging the hands. There's no need. And he doesn't require a tool or anything, I was just talking about what sort would look good from a distance (big vs. small). Viewers aren't going to be able to tell much at all about him in the final image, so there's no sense in adding fine details.
This fellow will do just fine, I'd say. Sign him up!
