Ignatz,
This looks really nice! The access hatch for the locking pin makes sense in that spot. And it's an added little place for people to see and wish they could explore.
I had a thought. The coloring and reflectivity of the missiles is really beautiful. Do you think that would work for the ship, too, or would it look too pristine? The coloring of the spherical engine above the thruster cone is a great touch.

David,
Just realized that this whole project has given me a flashback to way back when.
As a kid I used to love those plastic model kits of boats and airplanes. You know the ones, made by such companies as Revell and Airfix. I had so little allowance that even when I could afford to buy a kit and a tube of glue there was never enough left over for paint so that my models always ended up dressed only in the color of the plastic from which they were moulded; either a white or (more usually) a sort of light battle ship grey... which is EXACTLY what this space ship is reminding me of. Ahhhh! Sweet nostalgia!
Cheerio,

Ignatz,
I think the coloration and plasticky look of the model right now is what prompted my friends to want to 3D print it.
I used to make some of those, but I went for Star Trek and monster models, while my brother made a lot cars and trucks. I remember I made a "Phantom of the Opera" model kit once; the Phantom had a glow-in-the-dark mask!
