Took a look at your layout drawings. I half agree with the approach. The only difficulty lies in the fact that the Box Haulers don't make their primary link-up with the support pads, but rather with that rather robust tower. It is that locking tower that dictates the minimum width of the column beneath. To that end I've made another render, comparing what I now have with your new suggestion.
Yes, the tower can be thinner, more blade-like. However, there is still lost space into which normal shipping containers do not fit. The new 'smaller size' shipping containers would be considerably reduced in width, but as they are rather voluminous to begin with this might not be the problem it appears when seen as a simple graphic. The decision is yours, sir, mister spec ten.
