David,
Ended up in a long Skype video chat with a couple of old buddies of mine from the comic book publishing world of my past (you knew I was basically weird, right!?). The discussion turned to the world of stereography in connection with a (yet unfinished) 2D illustration of mine. My publisher friend suggested he would like to put that out as a 3D poster or something like that. Who knows if I can find the time to make that happen. But... it made me wonder about spitting out a 3D Stereo shot of the space ship we've been developing.
The Blender program actually has built-in stereo camera ability. I'd just never been tempted to try this before. This morning I took the plunge. I sent a couple of those renders to my friend for general amusement (he'll treat these discretely, I’m sure). So, now I'm sending some of those same outputs to you.
The first three of these are in the standard red-blue anaglyph format. To view those you need a pair of those funky glasses with separate red and blue filters for the right and left eye. I've got a pair of those somewhere around the house, but finding them would entail hours of digging.
In the meantime, I've also had the system spit out separate Left- and Right-eye views. These I have pasted up side-by-side for on-screen viewing.
One can see the 3D stereo effect by crossing one's eyes appropriately, but I warn you it can cause a bit of headache and/or eye strain if done for too long.
Hope you enjoy these,
-Ignatz
