Ignatz,
Computers have come a long way for sure. I didn't start using them until the late 1990s, though I had friends who worked on them way back when. I still can't do much more than type on the darned things.
I'm happy you're satisfied with your render times, and I know you're willing to foot any bills associated with outside services, but my offer stands. We can leave it at that.
Am I correct in assuming that adding fine details and textures to the image will increase its render time? As we start moving into that area, maybe it will be more of a concern.
I hope your week has been going well.

David,
I somewhat suspect that once I start adding in more complicated textures and/or decals that the on-board memory requirements may go up with an attendant drop in render speed. Also, I have recently figured out how to add in the nice glow effects around the lights on ship and cargo frame, but that has a price also, this in the form of a compositor pass after the actual render finishes. None of this will be super crushing in terms of time, per se. Just sayin'. Again, these things will only be known in the future. Hand me that crystal ball.
No great strides made on the project, but I am studying some little modeling, texturing and composing procedures so as to be ready for future progress.

David,
Still no further progress on the space craft, but I've been making some interesting discoveries about texture mapping in Blender. I'm trying 'not' to stress out about 'not' doing the 3D stuff for a few days. ;-)
Not really so much else going on just now. But quiet is good.
Smiles,

David,
After writing you the previous note I started playing around with quickly adding a dummy decal along the tank. Not trying for a correct look here. This is only a test, I repeat, this is only a test. Had this been an actual emergency... (etc., etc.)
Threw in a couple of lantern guns along for the ride on the top deck. They look very slightly small to me for some reason... relative to the airlocks. Hmmmm.
Cheers,

Ignatz,
I really like the placement and size of the numbering. Something like that would definitely work.
You think the lantern gun drones look small? I like their size, myself. Maybe if they had a color scheme that denoted their defensive character (vermilion, maybe?) they'd seem more at home. Maybe not, I don't know.
