David,
That the missiles can aim themselves after launch is a good thing. Nevertheless, a missile launched in the correct direction gains a few precious seconds (or tens of seconds) which might be a decisive game changer in certain situations.
I'll downsize those missile tubes to come closer to your description. Instead of two banks of three it will be something like two banks of eight or twelve, but much smaller in the same space. We'll see what it looks like. If it still seems too imposing I can also downsize the turret a bit as well. As for looking like they can tear a ship in half, well isn't that a good thing when confronted by a group of bloodthirsty pirates who would gladly cold walk your crew?
I've included some renders where I've downsized the turrets with more, but smaller missile tubes. The turret now is little closer to an anti-aircraft battery rather than a casemate with naval artillery.
Should I keep that second front turret? Or should I simply install a few charpac emplacements and let the rest depend upon the drones? Obviously, knowing that the missiles are much smaller makes a huge impact on the size of drones carrying those (still don't know about the lantern gun drone, though).
I'll play with this stuff again tomorrow.
Smiles and waves from here,
