Ignatz,
I'm not sure I understand the concept either. Is there a way to see the frames without the boxes, instead of the other way around? My suggestion was to have the second box, behind the frame locking column, to ALSO be a solid column, so that the entire thing is a docking platform for the ship. That seems a bit more "solid" looking, no?

David,
Another two renders here; one showing the cargo container array and the other a semi-X-ray view showing the locking column with the box haulers attached.
I've made the locking column full-depth relative to the box haulers so that the entire external surface serves as a contact base for the support pads of the ships.
The locking column and beams serve as the 'keel' structure of the container frame. I do not see the containers being simply 'stapled' to those beams, but rather that each container has a sort of cage around it, thus there is lots and lots of frame construction that is not shown, but you have to envision something very much Erector-set in appearance.
Now, as I said, it seems like there is rather a lot of 'lost' volume in that central column, so we have to assume that the shipping companies can use it creatively. Your choice as to exactly how.
Does this approach meet with your approval?
Cheers,
- Ignatz
