"All He Surveys" has been, and still is, an odyssey. Its completion has taken longer than expected by a factor of years. Granted, it's also a longer book, but I must confess, that my writing habits have not been as refined this time around as they were in the past. I've allowed distraction and ambition to override my process. I've placed other priorities above this one on many occasions, and have often let whim and whimsy lead the way, when strategy and dedication were called for.
In other words, the book’s late, and I have no excuse.
This is where a confession might normally segue into requests for forgiveness and patience. Well, certainly, those two things are nice, but right now, I'm more about the plan going forward. Last issue, I announced that AHS will be coming out in two parts. At a later date, hiding somewhere in the misty future, I might combine them into a single volume, but that's less important than getting them out at all. I'm not growing any younger; there are several novels yet to be written, and this one has been dragging on.
I won't make any promises, because you've heard them from me before, and then watched me fail to come through. The book will be given center stage from this point on, but I don't expect anyone to believe that. I mean I wouldn't!
Instead, if you could imagine a world where "All He Surveys: Book 01" were to come out by summer's end, and the audiobook began to be serialized immediately after, it might be a more pleasant way to pass the time. Living in fantasy is invariably more satisfying than living in expectation.
So, this the current plan. It may not be much, but I do think the book will be...well, maybe not worth the wait, expressly, but at least worth a read.
Talk to you next week,
