David,
Upon looking at the render I sent you I think that the space suited figures might be a touch small... hmmmm. Perhaps some of that good scobble to fatten 'em up. Whatever. You get the general size idea.

Ignatz,
I get the idea. Yeah.
So it is mostly contrast that lends the idea of size to a model. Does motion help? Looking at the stereo mini-movie you made, with the camera doing a pass-over of the ship, it strikes me that we get a better sense of scale with it than we do from the static images (and this is without the glasses). Or maybe it's just me?
It is hard, at this point, to get a sense of the thing, since I do know how big it's supposed to be. The human figures in the image might be slightly smaller than they should be, but then again, those same figures, when fully dolled-up, would be wearing bulky suits, holding heavy equipment, and using tether lines, etc. At that point, they wouldn't seem so small anymore.

Hi, David;
Just including another test render here. I warmed up the color of the cargo frame, more in the direction of a basic rustproofing color as per your suggestion. I've also fiddled a bit with some other approaches to getting some nice glow effects on the lighting.
I think I'm going to have to take some time and rework the cargo container(s). I want to apply some decoration, but the way I built the container looks OK, but doesn't lend itself to adding decoration. Three steps forward, two steps back. Sigh!
Would have made more progress except that I've had to turn my attention to some real world projects that have been on hold.
Cheers,
- Ignatz
